July 16, 2025 - Inflation Panic!

Inflation.. classic.. a single word that everyone fears >:3

Sometimes I wish I could turn back time, when things were less expensive. At this point, the zeros on money bills will continue to increase.. and we will literally become a slave to society :'D working for the same amount of money but being able to buy less from it as prices of things increase.

Speaking of which, have you heard about the Zimbabwe Dollar? Yes, when money literally turned into trash, people use it as toilet paper.. literally... since it's worth less than real toilet paper. Surprisingly, it was pretty absorbent too :D/ Imagine walking into a store, grabbing a loaf of bread, and beind told it costs 3 billion dollars. At its peak in 2008, Zimbabwe's inflation rate hit 89.7 sextillion percent per month! That is.. not 5%, not 10%, not even 20%.. it's 89,700,000,000,000,000,000,000% TT

Prices were fluctuating absurdly fast.. A loaf of bread could cost $2 million ZWD in the morning and $5 million by night.

It was so worthless that in 2009, the end the government abandoned the currency completely. They adopted the US dollar, the South African rand, and any foreign currency they could get their hands on. In 2019, the Zimbabwean dollar was reintroduced… and then immediately started inflating again. I guess old habits are hard to break.. :'D

Anyway, here is a link to the story of a creative artist who turned this zombie money into beautiful artworks :D Artist Prudence Chimutuah tried to see the beauty in these unloved banknotes through art.

BUT! Inflation is not always a bad thing.. If you’re traveling from a strong economy to a country with a weaker currency? You might just feel like a millionaire >:D So yeah.. inflation might wreck lives locally, but for tourists on vacation in certain low-income countries (LEDCs), it can feel like a shopping spree on cheat mode :3

  1. Ah yes I remember! The 100,000,000,000,000! That was actually the "New" dollar which was reset from the first time it went to 100 Tril! What's funny is that people from rich countries would try to buy these as a joke, so they could say they were trillionaires, which made them have some demand, and started to raise in value! HA!
